The **Origin of the Myth**

Midas was a mythical king of Phrygia in Asia Minor. The ancient Greeks remembered him because of two famous stories: the golden touch and the donkey ears. In the most common version of the story, Midas was kind to Silenus, a friend of Dionysus. Because of this, he was given one wish. This story teaches us that greed and careless wishes can bring problems.

**The Golden Touch**

Midas asked that everything he touched would turn into gold, and Dionysus made his wish come true. At first, the king was very happy. But soon he understood that he could not eat or drink because his food and water also turned into gold. In the end, his gift became a punishment, and Midas was close to dying.

**The End of the Story**

Midas understood that gold was not the most important thing in life. He asked Dionysus to take the golden touch away. Dionysus told him to wash in the river. Midas did this, and his power disappeared. After that, he was very happy because he could eat and drink again.

**The Lesson**

This myth teaches us that we should not be too greedy. Money and gold are not more important than life and happiness.
