Where did we go?

One of the most memorable trips for me was a trip to Lake Alakol. We went there with the whole family on vacation.

Alakol is located in the southeast of Kazakhstan. It's a beautiful lake with clear water, a wide shore and unusual nature.

Alakol is the pearl of Kazakhstan

Alakol is a large drainless lake located on the territory of Abay and Zhetisu regions, in the southeast of Kazakhstan. It is considered one of the most beautiful and unusual lakes in our country.

Its name "Alakol" can be translated as "multicolored lake". And this name really suits him: the color of water can look different depending on the weather, lighting and wind.

What makes Alakol unique?

Alakol is distinguished not only by its size, but also by its unusual nature.

The area of the lake is about 2,900 km², and the maximum depth reaches about 54 meters. It is located at an altitude of about 343 meters above sea level.

Alakol looks especially beautiful in sunny weather, when the water surface becomes bright blue and shimmers in the sun.

The unusual shore of Alakol

One of the features of Alakol is its shore.

On some parts of the coast you can see dark pebbles and stones. In combination with blue water and a bright sky, this creates a very unusual landscape, which is very different from the usual idea of beach holidays.

It is the combination of water, the dark shore and the surrounding steppe expanses that makes Alakol recognizable.

Nature of Alakol

Alakol is not only a place for swimming and relaxation. Its surroundings are of great natural importance.

A large number of birds live here, and a relict seagull is found on the islands of the lake, which is listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. To protect the unique nature of the region, the Alakol State Nature Reserve was established in 1998.

Therefore, Alakol is interesting not only for tourists, but also for people who study nature and observe birds.

My trip to Alakol

A few years ago I went to Alakol with my family.

I was really looking forward to this trip, because I wanted to take a break from ordinary things, change the environment and just spend time with loved ones.

We packed our things, prepared for the road and planned our vacation together. The trip itself has become a special adventure for me.

First impression

When we arrived at Alakol, the first thing that impressed me was the vast expanse of the lake.

There was water going far beyond the horizon, a clear sky and an unusual shore before my eyes. After a long journey, it was especially pleasant to finally see the lake with my own eyes.

At that moment, I understood why Alakol is considered one of the attractive tourist attractions of Kazakhstan.

Why do I remember Alakol?

Alakol left me with a special impression.

I remember its huge water surface, unusual shore, fresh air and beautiful landscapes. But the most important thing is the atmosphere of tranquility and time spent with the family.

Today, Alakol continues to develop as a tourist destination. In 2025, the coast was visited by about 382,000 domestic tourists, and the number of accommodation facilities is also increasing.
